Organizing our food storage

Steve found these neat can organizers online.  They are made of cardboard and pretty easy to fold and put together.  They make it easy to rotate your cans.

These happen to fit perfectly on our narrow shelves.  It will make it easier to see what we have and what we need to replenish.  I love the fact that it will rotate the cans for you.  It was always a pain to move the stuff to the front and try and put the new stuff in the back.  Plus stacking cans doesn't always work well.  If you have ever had a can drop on your toe...you know what I mean.

We will probably be getting more in the future to store more cans, since we are no where near the amount of food we should have for a family of 6.  Most of these are almost full now.  So we are saving up some pennies to get more boxes.

  1. Very cool!
I haven't seen these organizer before.
My husband is pretty handy, and has made us shelves for rotating...but, I like this idea too, because it is so easy to change your mind and use the shelf space for something else;if you ever decide to.
We are quite anxious to continue to build up our food storage again.
You are an inspiration. Keep up the good work :)

  2. Ooh ooh ooh where on line? Those are great...and yes I hate trying to rotate stuff to the back and I have dropped them on my toes!
ps we seem to have a lot in common...even the same breed of hens...only I do not have quite so many!

  3. Your food storage looks great and I LOVE the idea of cardboard can rotaters... I've only seen the expensive metal ones. I'm going to have to go searching and see if I can find them! Now I just need an extra room to put them! I have most of my stuff in buckets and don't have very many canned goods for my lack of storage. :(

I hope your flooding is beginning to go down... If only we could figure out how to pump it over to us, we'd both be happy. :)

  4. I wish I could draw. I know of a plan that is easy to make from wood. You just tilt the shelves downward and use 1" x 1" wood slats on each side of shelf (also mounted downward) to rotate from back. I saw these being made in Utah, by a group of men, wanting very much to please their wives w/ a Mother's Day present.
